LOUISVILLE, Ky. – With the race coming in on its 145th showing, the Kentucky Derby is a race that millions of viewers have become well accustomed to—more than 16 million according to numbers reported last year by Comcast.
As it has been for decades, the 2019 Kentucky Derby takes place on the first Saturday of May at the historic Churchill Downs race track. Each year, however, there are differences when it comes to the start time, schedule, and other aspects of the race.
Here’s more on what to know, and how to watch the 145th edition of the Kentucky Derby:
On Television:
The 2019 Kentucky Derby will be broadcast nationally by NBC and its affiliated channels. Starting on NBC Sports, coverage of Derby Day undercard races are set to take place starting at 12pm ET until 2:30 pm ET before transitioning over to NBC for the remaining races, including the 145th Run for the Roses, beginning at 2:30pm ET.
Streaming The Kentucky Derby:
Fans looking for a Kentucky Derby live stream will be able to find it NBCSports.com, through the NBC Sports app, as well as through fuboTV. The NBC Sports app can be found on the Apple App store or through the Google Play store (Android), and should work on most smartphones and tablet devices.
Official 2019 Kentucky Derby Post Time:
The 2019 Run for the Roses will get underway at approximately 6:50pm ET, rain or shine. Per AccuWeather, there is a high probability for bad weather throughout the day, however this is nothing new, as rain has fallen on at some point on 68 of the previous 144 Derby Days (47%).
Morning Line Favorite:
Coming into the race, Omaha Beach was the favorite to win this year’s Kentucky Derby. However, due to an unfortunate injury suffered only days before the event, Omaha Beach has now been scratched out. Replacing him atop the favored contenders is Game Winner, who currently sports 5/1 odds according to KentuckyDerby.com. Others with favorable odds include Roadster, and Improbable, both of which are right behind the favorite with a 6/1 payout.
After 2019 Kentucky Derby:
The next leg of the Triple Crown goes to Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore for the running of the 2019 Preakness Stakes. Following the Preakness, all attention will turn to 2019 Belmont Stakes at Belmont Park in Elmont, NY, on Saturday, June 8, 2019, especially if there is a chance for another Triple Crown winner, as American Pharoah and Justify did in 2015 and 2018, respectively.
