2021 NFL Week 5 Early Betting Lines Worth Noting

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Betting odds are available for all of the Week 5 games of the NFL season. As per usual, there are a handful of games that have lines that stick out from the rest for sports bettors to take advantage of.

Jacksonville Jaguars Vs. Tennessee Titans

The Tennessee Titans are coming off of a loss to the New York Jets and are now small favorites over the Jacksonville Jaguars. It’s possible that regulated sports betting sites are overreacting to the recent loss and are falling victim to recency bias.

Sure, the Titans lost. However, they were without Julio Jones and A.J. Brown, who combined to account for about 40% of the passing offense entering the week. The Jaguars are getting outscored by over 10 points per game on average due to their offense scoring the seventh-fewest points per game.

Pittsburgh Steelers Vs. Denver Broncos

A line that may be surprising to those betting on the NFL is the Pittsburgh Steelers being favored against the Denver Broncos. Denver is 3-1 on the year while Pittsburgh is 1-3 and in the middle of a three-game losing streak.

It’s tough to see this game going the way that sportsbooks expect considering just how good the Broncos’ defense has been and how bad the Steelers’ offense has proven to be. Denver’s defense ranks second-best in scoring, fifth-best in rushing, and fifth-best in passing while the Pittsburgh offense is scoring the fourth-fewest points and gaining the least rushing yards per game.

Aside from the game trends that point in the Broncos’ direction, the betting trends are there as well. Denver is 3-1 ATS while Pittsburgh is 1-3 ATS. It wouldn’t be too surprising to find the Broncos as favorites at game time.

Buffalo Bills Vs. Kansas City Chiefs

Over the last three weeks, the Buffalo Bills have looked to be the most dominant team in the league. However, online sportsbooks have them labeled as an underdog in Week 5 to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Buffalo has gone 3-0 over the last three weeks and have outscored their opponents 118-21 in doing so. These teams are two of the top three scoring offenses in the league this year, but the Bills’ top-ranked scoring defense has a clear advantage over the second-worst scoring defense in Kansas City.

It’s tough to give QB Patrick Mahomes the label of an underdog, but his team is just 2-12-1 against the spread over their last 15 games. This matchup has the highest total of the week (56.0 points) but it’s well within the realm of possibility that the Buffalo defense gives the Chiefs a lot of trouble.

This game is set for 8:20 p.m. EST on Sunday night and will air on NBC.
