WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Purdue Boilermakers basketball team has been a household name in college sports for over a decade with 15 March Madness tournament berths in the last 18 years.
Of those 15 appearances, they have nine Sweet 16 appearances, two Elite 8 appearances, one Final Four appearance, and a National Championship game appearance. Unfortunately, they’ve never won a National Championship.
Legal sports betting sites aren’t expecting them to win a National Championship either as they are going in with +8000 odds to do so. This marks their highest odds total going into March Madness since the 2014-15 season where they went in with +30000 odds.
Their odds journey this season has been a wild one after opening in the preseason at +1500 odds to win. Their odds did reach +8000 at one point during the regular season before coming back down to around +3500 to finish the year. Once the regular season ended and March Madness odds were reset, they bounced back to +8000.
The last two times since 2015 that Purdue went into the tournament with over +6000 odds, they were eliminated in the first round both times.
This season specifically, Purdue has taken a big step back from their dominance in recent seasons. While their 17-14 record against the spread is respectable, their +7.6 average winning margin is their lowest since 2020-2021.
