NEW YORK – One of the biggest surprises in all of college basketball this season has been the emergence of the St. John’s Red Storm. They went from a 20-13 record last season to a 27-4 record and ranked the #6 team in the country at the end of the regular season.

Their #6 ranking is their fifth-highest ranking all time since joining the Big East way back in 1980. This will also be just their fourth March Madness appearance since 2003 and their first in the last six years.

Ahead of March Madness, legal sports betting sites have listed with the eighth shortest odds at +2000, which is their lowest odds total of the season.

The Red Storm originally opened the season at massive +5600 odds to win March Madness and have brought them down drastically ever since. From the time they opened until the start of 2025, their odds remained above +5000. From January to February, they finally dropped below +4000 and finally closed at +2000 at the end of the season.

Going back to their March Madness appearances, in their last five, they’ve failed to make it past the second round each time.

From a game by game view, they lead the Big East against the spread with a 18-11-2 record and also a 12.4 winning margin, and +3 cover margin. Both of which lead the conference as well.
