BALTIMORE – Maryland launched legal sports betting at retail locations exactly three years ago on Dec. 9, 2021. In those three years, the state of Maryland has earned over $116 million towards the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future Fund from legal sports betting revenue.

Residents have wagered exactly $10,276,878,599 from Dec. 2021 through Oct. of 2024. Revenue numbers from November of 2024 haven’t released yet but are expected to be made public soon.

The luxury of Maryland residents having two NFL teams play their home games in the state likely contributed to the record-setting October sports betting handle. October saw nearly $44 million more bets than September and also resulted in the third-best revenue month ($7.05 million) since launching in Dec. 2021.

Local Teams Likely Helped Maryland October Betting Numbers

October was a great NFL betting month for Maryland teams, as the Baltimore Ravens were 3-1 (2-1-1 ATS) and the Washington Commanders were 3-1 (3-0-1 ATS), with the push being a Ravens win against the Commanders as seven-point favorites. Maryland also profited off MLB betting, as the Baltimore Orioles short postseason run consisted of two losses in the AL Wild Card against the Kansas City Royals.
