Academy Awards Betting Splits Reveal Who The Public Is Backing

• Sports betting splits show that 68% of all wagers are being placed on Chadwick Boseman to win Best Actor.
• A total of 69% of the total betting handle for Best Supporting Actor is being placed on Daniel Kaluuya.
• Minari is seeing the most wagers with 37% to win Best Picture.

LOS ANGELES – The 2021 Academy Awards is only 24 hours away and betting lines are buzzing at online sportsbooks.

Taking a look at the betting splits for the big event, we can see where most of the money is being placed on the big categories.

The Academy Awards is one of the biggest awards shows every year and entertainment betting fans have been placing heavy action on the results.

Betting On The Oscars

Popular US-based sportsbook DraftKings has revealed the betting splits for big categories including Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Director, and Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor, and Best Supporting Actress.

Starting with Best Actor, both the odds and the betting splits show most action is being placed on late star Chadwick Boseman for his performance as Levee Green in the Netflix Drama Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.

The splits at DraftKings sportsbook show that 68% of the total money wagered has been placed on Boseman, and 20% of the total bets have been placed on the late star.

Anthony Hopkins’s portrayal as Anthony in the film ‘The Father’ is also seeing a lot of action. Despite seeing just 19% of the total money, 37% of total bets placed have been on Hopkins.

This shows that bigger wagers are being placed on Boseman to win, even with his -1667 short odds to Hopkins +700.

The best actress splits are coming in more predictably. Both the betting handle (56%) and total bets (29%) are mostly going to Carey Mulligan for her performance as Cassandra in ‘Promising Young Woman.

Mulligan’s performance has raved on all year, and sports betting fans seem to agree that she is a lock to win with most action headed in her direction.

“Mulligan’s raw portrayal of a woman trapped by invisible walls is certainly powerful — she keeps the film afloat even when it falters — and the way Fennell gives human form to those walls imbues the film with a simmering rage,” said Siddhant Adlakha of the Observer.

The Best Director splits are interesting. Despite Chloe Zhao having the shortest odds by far to win, she only holds 19% of the total betting handle and 19% of total bets made.

Meanwhile, David Fincher has 35% of the betting handle and 23% of total bets. Lee Isaac Chung also sees 33% of the betting handle and 37% of total bets made.

Possibly due to how short Zhao’s odds are causing betting fans to see no real return in betting on the director, in addition to both ‘Minari’ and ‘Mank’ being viewed highly by both fans and critics, it’s understandable why the money is headed in that direction.

Finally, the Best Picture betting splits run into the same trend that Best Director saw, with most of the betting action going in the direction of ‘Minari’ despite ‘Nomadland’ being heavily favored.

‘Minari’ is seeing 37% of the total betting handle and 28% of the total bets being placed. ‘Nomadland’ is only seeing 16% of the total money and a shocking 8% of total wagers.

This betting line shows that most legal sports betting fans are leaning in favor of an upset taking place on Oscar Night.

The 93rd Academy Awards will kick things off on Sunday, April 25, 2021, at 8:00 p.m. EST. This is a big night for stars and betting fans alike.
