PHILADELPHIA, Penn. – The officials of the minority-owned online gambling platform Barstool Sportsbook plan on launching its mobile app in every state with legal sports betting by the end of 2021.
Jay Snowden, Penn National Gaming CEO, believes the app will launch in states around the country after launching in Pennsylvania last month and receiving 21,000 downloads per day on the debut weekend.
“As you get into 2021, I think you should expect for us to be in every state that’s legal, where we operate and can launch by the end of 2021,” said Snowden. “We’ll be in well over a dozen states by the end of the calendar year.”
The company also plans on launching in Michigan in November and has realized that the success of the app is only the start of growth in online legal sports betting.
The push for online sports betting platforms in many states did not start or even begin to be considered until the coronavirus pandemic affected retail casinos around the country.
“It’s very high on the priority list right now because the couple of states like New Jersey and Pennsylvania had authorized [sports betting] pre-COVID,” Snowden said. “People went online, they were still able to participate in casino gambling, sports wagering, whatever sports were available, and other states took note of that. I think you’re going to see this proliferate much quicker going forward than maybe most thought about at the beginning of this year.”
Currently, Barstool Sportsbook is only available in the Pennsylvania sports betting market.
Taking Steps In 2020
In an effort to further grow, Penn National Gaming has also partnered with Global Payments Gaming Solutions to provide online sports betting solutions to boost the Barstool sportsbook app.
The gaming provider will deliver engaging and exciting experiences that connect online and retail gaming through a multi-channel approach along with simplifying the account funding on the app.
“The Barstool Sportsbook app has been well received by Penn National’s customers,” said Christopher Justice, President of Global Payments Gaming Solutions. “We are pleased to be a part of this key initiative as the industry ushers in a new era in sports betting that prioritizes convenience and flexibility while giving users a superior, modern gaming experience.”
Global Payments Gaming Solutions will also be supporting the Barstool Sportsbook app in every future launch in states around the country.
