The Houston Astros are the fourth MLB team that has partnered up with BetMGM.
Astros fans will have to go to Louisiana to use BetMGM’s new special betting promotions.
HOUSTON- BetMGM has officially made its way into Texas, and has become the exclusive sports betting partner of the Houston Astros.
“The Houston Astros are a monumental addition to our portfolio of strategic partnerships with professional sports teams across the U.S.,” said Adam Greenblatt, CEO of BetMGM. “The organization’s passionate fan base will be key to the growth of BetMGM throughout the South as we look for new ways to engage fans with unique experiences that go beyond the game.”
What Does The Partnership Mean?
With sports betting not regulated in the state of Texas, BetMGM is unable to build any betting lounges that would hold live sportsbooks.
The closest state for Astros legal sports betting promotions would be Louisiana and BetMGM plans to take advantage of that. They have already announced that they plan on running special betting promotions for Astros fans residing in Louisiana.
This partnership is going to consist of mostly advertising opportunities for the sportsbook company. BetMGM will have signs throughout Minute Maid Park, including a wall in the outfield and promotions that will rotate during the games, behind the home plate.
VIP Experience For Astros Fans
Even though local Astros fans cannot use BetMGM to bet on the MLB in the newly decorated stadium, they will have opportunities to attend special Astros events or have the chance to throw the first pitch during a home game. This is only for Astros fans that are also BetMGM customers.
This is not the first time BetMGM has partnered up with an MLB team, they currently have partnerships with the Pittsburgh Pirates, Washington Nationals, and Boston Red Sox.
Most of the deals are similar, with major advertisements in the stadium, along with regular social media posts involving the sportsbook.
Partnering With Teams Without Regulated Betting
The Astros are now the second team that BetMGM has partnered up with that does not have regulated sports betting in their state. Having regulated sports betting in Washington and Pittsburgh does not change how BetMGM has conducted its advertising, but certainly offers more opportunities.
In Washington, BetMGM built a sportsbook lounge connected to Nationals Park and was able to launch a mobile app that only operated in the radius of the stadium.
In Pennsylvania, BetMGM has been able to promote their mobile sports betting app for all Nationals fans, and have the ability to offer special betting promotions.
