Betway Gives Sevilla FC Largest Partnership Deal In Club’s History

SEVILLE, Spain – Global online gambling company Betway is looking to expand its Spanish La Liga influence by being the official shirt sponsor of Sevilla FC, the biggest soccer club in La Liga.

With this deal, Betway will be replacing Marathonbet who has preemptively terminated its deal with Sevilla FC two years early.

The deal may come with several risks, however. Spain’s coalition government has moved to enforce anti-gambling regulation throughout Spain, which may go on to greatly impact any gambling partnerships going forward.

Betway Meets Sevilla FC

Betway is not new to La Liga as the online sportsbook has had partnerships with Alves, Levante UD, and CD Leganes. Sevilla FC would be a major deal as Sevilla is recognized as Andalusia’s biggest soccer club.

Betway has reportedly offered Sevilla $5 million per season to be their shirt sponsor. This deal would mark the biggest sponsorship in the club’s history.

This deal would be met with a lot of risks as it may be possible that gambling sites could be banned from advertising on soccer clubs’ shirts altogether.

Consumer Affairs Minister Alberto Garzon has sanctioned an approved Royal Decree to completely ban all betting related advertisements during live sporting broadcasts. The decree has been heavily criticized by soccer clubs and public broadcasters as it allows no grace period for existing contracts.

Garzon has been pushing Spain’s gambling overhaul aggressively. He as previously stated that “football has been flooded by betting partnerships.”

This Royal Decree is supposedly the first phase of the gambling overhaul and it is believed that the new government will push for more gambling restrictions going forward.

Still, Betway is pushing for this deal that would further cement them as the go-to betting operator for La Liga.

Regardless of Spain’s gambling restrictions, sports bettors will be able to legally bet on the La Liga season at legal sports betting sites.

They can even find betting lines for the MLS season that maybe gearing a return in June.
