WINNIPEG, Manitoba – Sports betting in Canada continues to expand as the Western Canada Lottery Corp. (WCLC) begins accepting single-game bets in Western Canada.
Players in the Alberta, Manitoba, Nunavut, Saskatchewan, and Yukon provinces will be able to wager at Las Vegas-style sportsbooks similar to markets in the US.
As sports betting in Canada continues to expand, the likes of the NBA include Canada as a sports betting market with its partnership with DraftKings and FanDuel.
Canada Sports Betting Grows
The WCLC updated its SPORT SELECT app as it now allows Canadian sports gamblers to place single wager bets. SPORT SELECT initially only allowed for parlays but with Canada passing legislation to allow single wagers, SPORT SELECT has been updated.
So far, single-game wagering options have been scarce since launch, only being available in some parts of Canada with local lotteries and gaming corporations.
This expansion of the SPORT SELECT app gives options to those in Western Canada to bet on sports province-wide. The app is available for download and the expansions have already been implemented.
Next Step For Canada Sports Betting
Canada may see more private sportsbooks launch in the future as well. The NBA announced DraftKings and FanDuel as its official sports betting partner. Included in the announcement was the Canadian market.
The @NBA and @DraftKings have entered into an expanded multiyear collaboration, which will debut new integrations during the league’s 75th anniversary season including exclusive sponsorship of NBABet Stream. Further details are available here: https://t.co/HFHLEXY5Gr pic.twitter.com/5KjsesO5jC

“The NBA season only just tipped off, and yet we have already seen the immediate impact of the sport among our customer base with significant reengagement along with healthy new betting activity across all of our states,” said Ezra Kucharz, Chief Business Officer at DraftKings. “All of this signals the rising demand for NBA basketball in its 75th anniversary season among sports bettors and daily fantasy players, and we are pleased to continuously collaborate with the league on new fan-centric platforms like our NBABet Stream integration.”
Both DraftKings and FanDuel have already set plans in motion to be at the forefront of the legal sports betting market.
FanDuel even appointed a General Manager in Canada despite not launching its operations in the market as of yet. The future of Canadian sports betting is a bright one.
