- William Hill and Monumental Sports have struck a deal for a new sportsbook.
- This will be the first arena-based sportsbook in the United States.
- There is currently no timeline for this sportsbook to launch.
WASHINGTON – Monumental Sports and William Hill announced on Thursday that a new sportsbook is headed to the Capital One Arena.
“Monumental is dedicated to bringing the latest technology and innovation into our arena and delivering extraordinary experiences to our fans. We are excited to partner with William Hill, the industry leader in sports betting, to become the first professional sports arena in the U.S. to feature a sportsbook,” said Ted Leonsis, chairman, and founder of Monumental Sports.
The press release gave us a look at what the new William Hill Sportsbook will look like. The sportsbook itself will take up multiple floors within the arena. Food and drink will be served near the new sportsbook as well. The sportsbook will be easily accessible from F Street.
The ease of accessibility is designed to bring in as many sports bettors as possible. Bettors who do not have a ticket to an ongoing game will also have access to the sportsbook. On top of that, the new William Hill Sportsbook will be open every day. This includes days with no games happening in the Capital One Arena. The William Hill mobile sports betting app will be available as well. But it will have a limited range of where it will work.
At the moment, the new William Hill Sportsbook cannot open yet. Legal sports betting first needs regulatory approval before construction can begin. There is currently no set timeline on when the William Hill Sportsbook will open.
Despite the issues with Intralot, the opening of the William Hill Sportsbook should not be impacted. Once the William Hill Sportsbook does open, Washington D.C. will be home to the first arena-based sportsbook in the US.
