  • There is a 7.5-point spread set on the game.
  • Indiana last played Notre Dame in 1991.

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The first round of the College Football Playoff will commence with an instate matchup between the Notre Dame Fighting Irish as they host the Indiana Hoosiers.

Legal sports betting are all in on Notre Dame in this one with such a large spread. While some might be enticed to trust Indiana with a larger cushion helping them out here, on paper, things are pointing Notre Dame’s way towards a win and cover.

Trust The Irish On The Spread

What this comes down to is experience on the season and Indiana just doesn’t have it the way that Notre Dame does. The Irish saw four matchups this season against top-25 opponents and cleared each one of them to a 4-0 record and also covered the spread on college football sportsbooks three times in those games as well.

As for Indiana, while an 11-1 record is extremely impressive and deserving of a playoff spot, they were ranked 67 in terms of strength of schedule this season meaning they’ve had no real tests this season until Week 13 against #2 Ohio State. In their matchup against the Buckeyes, their only top-25 opponent of the season, they got boat raced 38-15 and failed to cover +10.5.

The Irish have been absolutely steaming hot against the spread as of late covering in their last seven games and all of which have been of a touchdown margin or greater. They’ve thriven as a home favorite going 3-2-1 ATS from that position and are winning their games from that position by 23.7 points on average. The Hoosiers have come up short ATS in two of their last three games.

This marks the 30th meeting between the two and the first since 1991. History has been on the Irish’s side as well with a 23-5-1 record against the Hoosiers and the winners of six straight in the series dating back to 1951.
