- Colorado will be launching their legal sports betting mobile platforms beginning on May 1.
- Colorado will be home to the second SuperBook in the United States at their Black Hawk casino location.
- The NFL SuperContest is in talks to happen at the location as it does in Las Vegas but a decision has not yet been finalized.
DENVER – Legal Colorado sports betting will be launching on May 1, and with it will be a SuperBook at the Lodge Casino in Black Hawk.
This will be the second SuperBook in the United States to exist with the first one being the Westgate Superbook in Las Vegas. The SuperBook is known for its NFL SuperContest which is one of the biggest in the nation. A winner has received as much as $1.5 million in contest winnings in 2019 with entry into the contest costing $1,500.
The SuperContest has also seen famous sports bettors join such as James Holzhauer, otherwise known as ‘Jeopardy James.’ Colorado could see the SuperContest option at their SuperBook when the NFL season starts.
Sports Betting In Colorado
Sports betting in Colorado is set to launch on May 1, despite the lack of sporting events currently happening due to the Coronavirus pandemic. With casino locations being shut down across the country, the launch will see geo-fenced mobile platforms opening up for bets.
The SuperBook is not as high tech with their mobile applications as other sportsbooks that do most of their business through these platforms. More work will need to be done on their mobile sportsbook for their platform to be up to par with competitors. However, the SuperBook is excited to expand its business into Colorado, venturing outside of their sole Las Vegas location.
“We believe The Lodge is a perfect fit for our initial expansion opportunities outside Las Vegas,” said Jay Kornegay, SuperBook® Executive Vice President of Race & Sports Book Operations. “We have maintained the highest levels of technology and service in a highly-regulated industry. We have written the playbook on sports betting in the United States, and now we will put it in action in Colorado.”
Bringing the SuperContest to the Centennial State could bring in much-needed revenue along with it. While it has not yet been approved, they are certainly in talks about it.
“We had a really good discussion with Colorado gaming regulators last week about contests and the SuperContest,” said Kornegay to ESPN. “It hasn’t been approved yet, but we hope to offer the SuperContest this year for the upcoming football season.
The Bottom Line
While Colorado sports betting plans to launch at the first of next month, the format and wagers offered will be a bit offbeat as the timing of the launch comes during strange times.
Most all sports worldwide have been stopped which leaves sportsbooks open to be creative in their offerings. Almost all of Colorado’s 33 casino locations have applied for Master licenses in order to allow sports betting with their businesses.
Even with the Coronavirus pandemic affecting the legal sports betting industry as a whole, the SuperBook brand is very optimistic about their new expansion into the Centennial State.
“It’s very exciting,” said Kornegay. “This will be our first outlet outside of Nevada. It’s certainly a new challenge for us, but the whole team is excited to expand the SuperBook brand.”
