- This is the first of three sport wagering operations that will go live in Connecticut.
HARTFORD, Conn. – Connecticut sports bettors may see their first sportsbook as early as next week as one of two Tribal Gaming Compacts is now officially published within the Federal Register. On Wednesday, the Mohegan Indians of Connecticut and their new expanded compact that allows them to offer sports betting was published in the register. This greenlights the tribe to go live with their sportsbook any day, which will likely be next week.
Connecticut Sports Betting
Regulated sports betting in Connecticut has been progressing for quite some time. The Connecticut Lottery, the Mashantucket Pequot Tribe, and the Mohegan Indians were all approved to offer sports wagering via retail venues and mobile sportsbook platforms earlier this year.
The Connecticut sports wagering industry was hoping to see a launch by the beginning of the 2021-2022 NFL season but that did not happen as football is entering Week 2 of their schedule. However, FanDuel sports betting may roll out with the Mohegan Tribe as early as Week 3 of the NFL season.
There will be brick-and-mortar sports wagering that has been said to launch first. The lottery was granted 15 separate retail locations statewide where they can offer sports betting while the Mashantucket Pequot Tribe will be able to open at their Foxwoods Casino with DraftKings. The Mohegan Sun Casino will be the first to open as it has been the first to be approved for a rollout.
After retail locations go live, with the lottery choosing Rush Street Interactive (RSI) as their platform of choice, mobile sportsbooks will then launch, of which there will be three, one for each entity. These platforms will be accessible throughout the state. Residents will have their pick of FanDuel, DraftKings, or RSI sportsbook apps to choose from.
What’s Coming For Connecticut
The Mohegan Sun Casino should not have such a huge jump on the sports betting industry as the Mashantucket Pequot Tribe should hear about their approval any day and then the lottery can launch their RSI locations as well. Either way, Connecticut will be getting their live sportsbooks for NFL wagers, even though it’s a few weeks after the start of the season. And history for the state will be made with regulated sports gaming finally becoming an official market.
