DETROIT – The Detroit Tigers become the first Major League Baseball team to partner with a sportsbook after officially joining forces with global sports betting operator PointsBet.
The deal comes one year following the Michigan regulating sports betting. The partnership will give PointsBet access to promotions and data surrounding the Tigers, and Detroit will gain more content and fan engagement activities powered by PointsBet.
The deal is set to begin when the 2020 MLB season starts, with both parties seemingly ecstatic about the partnership.

Detroit Tigers fans and MLB bettors as a whole will soon see the expected benefits of the partnership with PointsBet.
The Tigers are excited to see how PointsBet’s gaming technology manages to enhance the fans’ experience and increase fan engagement.
Ilitch Holdings Group President of Sports and Entertainment Chris Granger expressed the team’s excitement in the official press release.
“We are thrilled to welcome PointsBet as a gaming partner of the Detroit Tigers,” said Granger. “Our incredible fans will love the unique experiences and innovative offerings that PointsBet’s personalized platform provides. We look forward to the fan-friendly enhancements this will bring to the game-day experience in and around Comerica Park for years to come.”
The deal allows PointsBet to use official MLB data as well as logos and marks.
This is the first time any sportsbook has partnered with an MLB franchise, making PointsBet ahead of the curve in the professional baseball market.
PointsBet also benefits from the District Detroit app and the MLB Ballpark app giving them full integration.
“The PointsBet team is excited to announce our groundbreaking deal with the Detroit Tigers and Major League Baseball, becoming the first legal sports betting operator in U.S. history to partner with an MLB franchise,” said Johnny Aitken, CEO of PointsBet USA. “PointsBet operates in rare space within the industry by owning our technology environment from end to end, which allows us to be extremely nimble on product innovation and personalized offerings to complement our app’s market-leading speed. We offer the most betting options in the world on MLB games via our unique PointsBetting product, and we are excited to inject a unique and robust betting proposition into the great state of Michigan.”
PointsBet will also be able to advertise their brand during the Detroit Tigers games, as well as be featured on the Detroit Tigers Radio Network.
The sponsorships also continue with televised broadcast-visible branding and a regular future on the twice a week live streaming show The Word On Woodward.
The MLB has been actively embracing sports betting in the last few months.
The league recently announced a partnership with sports data company and sportsbook theScore giving them access to logos and league-wide data.
Hopefully, these partnerships are a trend going forward of the MLB partnering with legal betting sites.
