DES MOINES, Iowa – Weeks after the first DraftKings Sportsbooks opened in Iowa, the daily fantasy sports operator is now accepting fantasy sports players in the Hawkeye State for the first time.
DraftKings beat their competition when they were awarded the state’s first DFS license last week.
“DraftKings is thrilled to show The Hawkeye State why we have been able to establish ourselves as a premier destination for sports fans who want skin in the game,” said Chief Revenue Officer and Co-Founder of DraftKings, Matt Kalish.
According to the company’s press release, Iowans now have the ability to join 11 million global members and use DraftKings to build their fantasy teams with all the latest updates to the DFS platform.
DraftKings Leagues will allow users to create their own personalized private contests so that friends and colleagues can play together with their own rules.
Users in Iowa can also expect to see the Fair Play Commitment Initiative in action when they go to join a contest. This initiative ensures that experienced and professional players can’t join beginner leagues and take advantage of new or casual DFS players.
New competitions like Showdown Contests are also up for grabs in Iowa. The regular Showdown Contest allows players to draft a team for a single game while also staying under a specified salary cap. In-game Showdown is similar, but it allows users to build their team after a game has started.
“We are excited to offer Iowans our daily fantasy products, featuring the largest prize pools you’ll find anywhere in the world,” said Kalish.
Iowa joined 40 other states with legal daily fantasy sports. The inclusion of daily fantasy sports makes Iowa one of the best destinations for sports bettors and sports fans of all types.
