- DraftKings has started an email petition in Illinois to rid the state of in-person registration for mobile sportsbooks that are required by law.
- The big named sports betting company has already found a way for people to register for their mobile sports betting platform without talking to a real person; through the parking lot of the Casino Queen.
CHICAGO – DraftKings recently opened its sportsbook through Casino Queen in Illinois in early August and has already started an email petition to rid the state of the required in-person registration to access mobile sports betting platforms.
DraftKings is one of two mobile sportsbooks in the Prairie State, the other being BetRivers. Governor J.B. Pritzker lifted the in-person requirement in June by Executive Order 2020-41 amid the outbreak of COVID-19 and mandatory shutdowns of casinos which would not have allowed gamblers to go sign up in person.
DraftKings is asking that this Executive Order be reinstated as Pritzker put the requirement back into place July 24.
The campaign is being done by email where each person that “signs” will automatically send out three separate emails to a State Representative, a State Senator, and the Governor.
The pre-written emails are very formal in the way they are written and ask that the Governor rid the state of the in-person registration clause for mobile and online sportsbooks.
DraftKings And Registering In Person Loophole
DraftKings, while behind the petition, has found a way for the good people of Illinois to join their online sports betting platform without ever needing to enter the Casino Queen.
The sportsbook has opened the beginning part of registration online so that people can begin the process from home. Then, they only need to drive to the parking lot of the Casino Queen and log in to their account where they will be able to finish registering.
Their phone will show their location as being at the casino which is the “loophole” that allows this to be done completely without entering the establishment and completely through a mobile device.
DraftKings may be the King of sports betting operators in the nation but they are also King at finding ways to get things done the way they want them to be done.
They first had no shot at being allowed into the Illinois mobile sports betting scene until they made a deal with Casino Queen which allowed them to offer their mobile sports wagering application to Illinoisans everywhere.
Now, even with a petition, they have found a way for sports bettors to sign up for their app without ever needing to do so through an actual person with a face to face situation.
