Facebook Launches Fantasy Sports Products For Its Users

Facebook launches Facebook Fantasy Games product on its mobile app.
This product will bring fantasy sports options and even more social fun to Facebook users.
There will be options for players to pick winners with MLB Home Run Picks, La Liga Winning Streak, and Fantasy “The Bachelorette”.

MENLO PARK, Calif. – Facebook has added fantasy sports options to its mobile app with the launch of Facebook Fantasy Games (FFG).

This new addition to the social media platform adds picks for users to make on sporting events as well as entertainment events like The Bachelorette and Survivor.

This marks the first time that Facebook has integrated daily fantasy sports (DFS) options into their offerings and could be a major game-changer in the future across other social media networks.

The Facebook Fantasy Games (FFG) product is accessible through the existing social media app, so patrons don’t need to download anything further. All of the options on FFG will be free and are limited to simple event prediction picks.

“Today, we’re rolling out Facebook Fantasy Games in the US and Canada on the Facebook app for iOS and Android,” said Daniel Fletcher, Product Manager, Entertainment. “Facebook Fantasy Games are free, simple prediction games that help fans enjoy sports, TV shows and pop culture content together. These games bring the social fun of traditional fantasy sports to simpler formats that are easy to play for people new to prediction games, while still engaging enough for more seasoned players.”

In addition to individual contests run by Facebook, there will be leaderboards that show the players who have had the most success with their picks. Players can also create public and private leagues to compete with their friends.

Pick & Play Sports

In partnership with Whistle Sports, Facebook has created a DFS prediction game dubbed Pick & Play Sports. Players will be able to pick sports betting options such as which team will win an upcoming game, how many points a given athlete will score, and live in-game options during sporting events.

MLB betting fans will see options for the MLB Home Run Picks event where contestants will select a player to hit a homerun each day during the playoffs.

There is also an ongoing event for soccer fans, the La Liga Winning Streak. Contestants will select a team to win each week during this event.

Entertainment Betting Options

Entertainment picks are another option for television events like ABC’s The Bachelorette and CBS’s Survivor.

These contests work similarly to the sporting events option. For both of these major programs, patrons would wager on who will be eliminated next.

Facebook dipping its toes into the world of DFS could be early signs for the social media giant to enter sports betting. Fans will have to wait and see what the company has in store for the future.
