- FanDuel is one of the leading DFS giants in the US.
- Due to their popularity in Pennsylvania, the Pittsburgh Steelers have chosen a sponsorship with FanDuel.
- Both FanDuel and the Steelers will share access to data and information to offer the public for DFS purposes.
NEW YORK – On Friday, FanDuel announced that they inked a partnership with the Pittsburgh Steelers in the world of fantasy sports. While the agreement is specifically for DFS and not sports betting, it will still allow FanDuel a huge platform to market their brand in Steelers Nation. This is the first partnership of its kind for Pittsburgh.
“We’re excited to bring FanDuel into the fold as our Official Daily Fantasy Partner. We think Steelers fans will enjoy the FanDuel platform and the opportunity to compete for unique Steelers prizes”, said Ryan Huzjak, Steelers Vice President of Sales & Marketing.
FanDuel is a well-known business in the state of Pennsylvania. Their sportsbook operating out of Valley Forge was able to take in $7.1 million in the month of September alone. That number wouldn’t have an effect on their contract with the Steelers though. However, that same month saw DFS profits of $1.4 million in the state, only $200,000 under DraftKings revenue.
The Steelers are not the only team in the NFL that has chosen FanDuel as one of their sponsors. Earlier in the month, the Indianapolis Colts made a similar partnership with the company for fantasy sports. The deal that Pittsburgh made would last through the 2019-2020 season.
While FanDuel will be receiving multiple sources where they will be able to display their name, including the stadium scoreboard and television and radio advertising, they will also offer fan engagement at different events. In turn, this should broaden the already large Steeler fanbase. A fantasy camp is expected to take place sometime in the future at Heinz Field, giving fans the opportunity to have a more immersive experience.
“We truly admire the historical franchise the Steelers have built, and Pittsburgh is an incredible sports town,” said Matt King, CEO of FanDuel. “Our Pennsylvania customers love their teams and their players, and by partnering with the Steelers, we’ll further deliver on our promise to further engage fans and meaningfully grow our brand.”
All of those interested in DFS will now have a chance to see the Steelers closer up. This could potentially lead to boosts in sales of merchandise and other Pittsburgh affiliated markets. Sports betting may also be on the rise once people become more invested in the team as a whole. This partnership is meant to boost both parties involved for their businesses and general fanbases.
