WASHINGTON – The online gaming company, FanDuel Group has announced its multi-year partnership with D.C. United after beating out casino operator Caesar Entertainment for this deal.

The agreement between FanDuel and D.C. United makes FanDuel the exclusive sports betting sponsor of the team and sets the stage for the gaming company to open its retail sportsbook in Audi Field next year.

“D.C. United is looking forward to the opportunity of working with a first-rate operator in this new and exciting space,” said Sam Porter, Chief Strategy Officer of D.C. United. “The FanDuel Sportsbook is best-in-class and we believe their expertise, technology, and product will provide our fans, guests at Audi Field, and the Buzzard Point neighborhood a full-slate of entertainment options.”

This 10-year deal will also have FanDuel pay D.C. United an undisclosed share of the turnover from the retail sportsbook and annual fees. The sportsbook will be available year-round and will offer bets on MLS games along with professional football, baseball, basketball, golf, and much more.

The agreement marks the company’s first-ever legal sports betting partnership with a Major League Soccer team.

“As we continue to expand our nationwide footprint, joining forces with one of the MLS’ most iconic clubs allows us to bring America’s #1 Sportsbook to the nation’s capital,” said Matt King, CEO, FanDuel Group. “We’re partnering with D.C. United to elevate the fan experience at Audi Field and bring the DMV area an in-person sports gaming experience other parts of the US have come to know and love from FanDuel.”

Pending regulatory approvals and licensing, the sportsbook will debut in one of the club areas already in place at Audi Field in 2021 and will feature betting windows and self-service betting terminals. Sportsbooks in Washington D.C. are allowed to operate at any professional sports venue.

This new retail sportsbook will add to the already 12 land-based sportsbooks that are located in multiple states around the country including Pennsylvania, Illinois, Mississippi, New Jersey, New York, Indiana, West Virginia, Michigan, and Iowa.
