Georgia Favored Over Alabama In SEC Conference Championship Game

ATLANTA – The Georgia Bulldogs and Alabama Crimson Tide will meet in the SEC conference championship for just the third time. However, this game has a much different feel to it.

With the College Football Playoff final rankings just two weeks away, these teams are playing for a spot. If the Georgia Bulldogs win, the Alabama Crimson Tide are likely eliminated from the playoff. However, if the Crimson Tide win, both teams likely earn a spot which leaves one of the other teams out to dry.

The Cincinnati Bearcats, Notre Dame Fighting Irish and winner of the Big 12 conference championship will all be competing for the final spot in that scenario, assuming the Michigan Wolverines win the Big Ten title.

The Betting Odds

History is already being made before the game even starts. Georgia is the favorite in the game which makes it the first time in over six years that Alabama will take the field as an underdog.

Interestingly enough, the last time it happened was in October 2015 against the Bulldogs. The Crimson Tide went on to win 38-10. Legal sports betting sites are expecting a different result this time around.

Georgia is led by their defense that has allowed just 6.9 points per game this season which is far and away the best in the country. However, their offense isn’t too bad either, scoring 40.7 points on average which ranks sixth on the national level.

Nick Saban boasted a 24-0 record against his former assistants early in the season but lost to Jimbo Fisher earlier in the year to make him 25-1 overall heading into the SEC title game. However, college football betting sites are now anticipating a second loss this year.

The teams combine to score 83.0 points per game, but they also combine to allow just 26.8 points per game. Alabama has seen more than 50 points in 10 of their 12 games this season while the Bulldogs have done so in just five of their 12 games.

It’s just as easy to see a 42-41 final score as it is to see a 13-7 final score, making it a difficult line to handicap. However, with all the variables in the game, the most certain is that the Georgia defense will play well and limit scoring.
