Gonzaga Reclaims March Madness Odds After Purdue’s Loss

• The Gonzaga Bulldogs have (+525) odds to win the NCAA Tournament.
• The Purdue Boilermakers have the next shortest odds at (+800).
• The Duke Blue Devils round out the top three betting choices at (+900).

LAS VEGAS – The Gonzaga Bulldogs have the shortest odds to cut down the nets this season with the Purdue Boilermakers and Duke Blue Devils close behind.

Gonzaga Bulldogs (+525)

Gonzaga, on paper, has a perfectly formed team that seems primed to make a run at the national title. Their team is led by a dominant big man in Drew Timme who is a potential Player of the Year candidate and they have a veteran point guard in Andrew Nembhard who can control the pace of a game and among others.

Additionally, they have Chet Holmgren the No. 1 ranked freshman in the country and possible top draft pick who can spread the floor despite being a true 7-footer.

It shouldn’t be all that surprising to find legal online sportsbooks giving the Zags the shortest odds considering what they’ve done in the past and many arguing that this is the best team Mark Few has ever had from a talent standpoint. Although they have more losses this season already than they did the year prior, this team should be in peak form entering the NCAA tournament at the end of the season.

Purdue Boilermakers (+800)

Purdue may not be filled with NBA-level talent, but the team plays well enough together that it’s fair to call them one of the best teams in the country. Despite having just lost, it’s already been a record-breaking season for the program as they were recently ranked No. 1 in the country for the first time.

Not many teams have a matchup for Zach Edey, the 7’4” center with actual footwork and skill and if they do, that usually leaves the 6’10” Trevion Williams with a mismatch to take advantage of.

On the perimeter, they have the fifth-best 3-point field goal percentage which makes them a well-rounded team certainly worth betting on in futures odds.

Duke Blue Devils (+900)

Duke may be sending off Coach K with a National Championship as the team already has wins over Kentucky and Gonzaga just a month into the season those betting on college basketball are likely aware of Paulo Banchero, a potential No. 1 pick in the upcoming draft.

However, they could be sleeping on Wendell Moore Jr. who is currently averaging 17.8 points, 6.5 rebounds, 5.6 assists and 1.8 steals per game all while shooting over 56% from the floor.

The team’s only weakness is three-point shooting but considering they’re currently ranked third in the country despite being No. 211 in 3-point percentage shows just how good this team could be if the shots start to fall from outside the arc.
