- Henrik Lundqvist leads the betting odds (-1000) for the Hockey Hall of Fame induction.
- Four players have odds shorter than even odds, as the committee averages 4-5 athletes per year.
NEW YORK – Adding about four or five players into the Hockey Hall of Fame every year, the 2023 iration features some odds than range from -1000 to +2500. With almost two dozen hockey players on the list, these odds can be broken into three different categories – the favorites, the honorable mentions, and the longshots.
Hockey Hall Of Fame 2023 Induction Favorites
- Henrik Lundqvist -1000
- Alexander Mogilny -500
- Caroline Ouellette -450
- Jennifer Botterill -300
- Rod Brind’Amour EVEN
- Pierre Turgeon EVEN
With a career .919 save percentage in 1017 NHL games, there is no shock as to why Henrik Lundqvist is such a heavy favorite at Bovada. As a first ballot member, Lundqvist holds many NHL and New York Rangers records.
Potentially missing out on “what have you done for me lately” Alexander Mogilny will see his name in the bright lights yet again. Retired since 2006, Year number 14 may be the one for Mogilny. He ranks 55 all time in goals scored (473) and is the 34th best in terms of points per game.
The hockey hall of fame isn’t locked into just men or just the NHL for that matter. That’s why Caroline Ouellette is such a heavy hockey betting favorite to earn her place in history. Oullette is one of a handful of hockey players to win a gold in the Olympics in four straight games. Aside from an amazing college career, she also is one of three to have a World’s Golf, Olympic Gold, and Clarkson Cup to her name.
If the hall of fame ended at these three, there wouldn’t be a shock to many. But, these are just some of the favorites, as the list doesn’t end here at legal sportsbook.
Honorable Mentions To Be Inducted In Hockey Hall of Fame
- Karen Bye-Dietz +400
- Meghan Duggan +400
- Sergei Gonchar +500
- Henrik Zetterberg +500
- Curtis Joseph +500
- Alexander Maltsev +700
- Boris Mikhailov +700
- Jeremy Roenick +700
- Keith Tkachuk +700
Of the hockey stars on the list, Henrik Zetterberg and/or Meghan Duggan could find their way in.
Zetterberg is in the Triple Gold Club but may not find acceptance in his second term. Still, Zetterberg has quite the impressive accomplishments in the mid-2000s despite not breaking the 20-goal marker in his last six seasons.
As for Duggan, she is still building her resume as the director of player development for the New Jersey Devils. But beforehand, her 2011 Patty Kazmaier Memorial award mixed with an Olympic gold and several IIHF world championship golds made her a household name in hockey.
It is only Duggan’s second year of eligibility, but at +400 odds, this might be the best bet for the hockey hall of fame inductees.
Both Curtis Joseph and Keith Tkachuk could see headlines, but their odds certainly do not support them fully.
Also, the hall of fame hasn’t had two goalies join in the same year since 1980 Without better stats than Lundqvist, Joseph will likely be on the outside looking in this year.
This is similar to Tkachuk, who is in his ninth year of eligibility. Sitting top 35 in all time goals scores, he would be the first and only player not in the hall of fame when going down this list. He may have not bad the most accolades or awards behind him, but over 1,200 games over the course of 18-years isn’t something everyone can do.
Hockey Hall of Fame 2023 Longshots
- Reggie Leach +1100
- Corey Crawford +1400
- Patrik Elias +1500
- Chris Osgood +1800
- Justin Williams +2000
- Jay Bouwmeester +2500
- Brent Seabrook +2500
As for the longshots, NHL sports betting sites will earn a win if someone bets here. With 15 players with shorter odds, it’s hard to make a case for any of them this season.
But for those crazy hockey bettors who like to sweat, consider betting on defenseman Jay Bouwmeester. The durable and long-lasting journeyman spent 17 years in the NHL with a few gold medals behind him as well.
Playing in 737 consecutive regular season games, Bouwmeester’s notoriety as the third overall pick has kept him in the spotlight since.
The annual meeting for the Selection Committee will be in the summer of 2023 before announcing at that time.
