TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Now that states across the country have begun to legalize sports betting, the concern over the integrity of sports has also grown. But, the new partnership between International Game Technology (IGT) and Global Lottery Monitoring System (GLMS) aims to eliminate any worry.
“IGT has once again proved their commitment to supporting the sector, the community, and players,” said Ludovico Calvi, President of GLMS. “We look forward to having IGT on board and working closely with them with the objective of protecting our core values and acting as a shield against global sport corruption.”
IGT is an international supplier of slot machines as well as gaming technology used for state lotteries and sports betting. GLMS, on the other hand, is a sports integrity monitoring system that’s shared between state lotteries in the U.S.
IGT becoming an associate member of GLMS comes at a pivotal time in the U.S. sports betting industry.
Each state now has the ability to shape its laws around sports betting the way they see fit. Certain states such as Rhode Island have chosen to put their lottery commissions in charge of regulating the activity.
Other places such as Washington D.C. have put their lottery supplier in charge of supplying their sportsbook technology and mobile sports wagering app.
The Oregon Lottery Commission, which plans to offer sports wagering later this year, outsourced their entire sports betting operations to the third-party gaming tech provider SBTech.
With IGT’s new affiliation, the company will be tied to the visual identity of GLMS. This means IGT will have access to new education and prevention tools, the GLMS information network, and summaries of global alerts.
IGT will also have to abide by the GLMS Code of Conduct on Sports Betting.
“The work GLMS does with monitoring betting patterns, as well as providing responsible gaming education to establish a culture of integrity is outstanding, and embracing such a global lottery effort is aligned with IGT’s culture and values,” said Wendy Montgomery, IGT Senior Vice President of Global Brand, Marketing, and Communications.
Some of IGT’s major operating locations in the U.S. include Las Vegas and Austin, along with Lakeland, FL, and Providence, RI.
