- November’s Illinois sports betting numbers hit record-high $447 million in betting handle.
- Sportsbooks saw $41 million in revenue.
- The state collected $6.15 million in tax revenue.
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – The legal sports betting market in Illinois continues to see growth as the state hits record-breaking numbers in betting handle for November.
The Prairie State has had success in the market since its launch in March 2020, with the bulk of the sports betting activity coming from mobile and online sportsbooks.
Sports betting in Illinois is already a major market, and the numbers are only expected to continue to grow moving forward.
Record-Breaking Betting Handle
Those betting on sports in the Land of Lincoln were aggressively active in November. According to the report released by the Illinois Gaming board, $447 million was wagered in November.
This is a slight increase in betting activity from the $434.6 million wagered in October, showing a steady month over month growth pattern in the market.
The local sportsbooks saw a 9.17% hold rate on wagers, collecting $41 million in sports betting revenue. Of that $41 million, the state collected 15% in tax revenue securing $6.15 million for the month.
With the final November numbers released, Illinois becomes the sixth state to cross the $1 billion betting handle month since launch. It only took the Prairie State eight months to do so.
Mobile betting continues to be the main source of the legal sports betting market in Illinois. The Pair-A-Dice mobile app collected $59,741,844.14 alone in wagers. This is followed by the Casino Queen mobile sportsbook which saw $49,429,040.21 wagered online.
FanDuel is partnered with Par-A-Dice while DraftKings is partnered with Casino Queen.
Mobile sports betting is the primary source of wagering in the state, which makes it understandable why Governor JB Pritzker continues to renew the executive order that allows for remote sign-ups.
Per Illinois law, sports bettors are required to sign up in person before they can access online sportsbooks. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Governor approved an executive order that allowed players to sign up from everywhere.
The executive order has been renewed seven times already and is expected to be renewed for an eighth time as it is scheduled to expire on February 6, only a day before the Super Bowl.
