INDIANAPOLIS – Indiana bettors have wagered over $147.3 million in sports bets during the month of November.
High Numbers All Around
Sports betting in Indiana has been active since September. With each new revenue report, the handle and overall numbers for sports betting have increased.
The November report states that the total handle for the month reached $147.3 million. In October, Indiana sports bettors brought in around $91.7 million in total handle. This means that the overall sports betting handle increased by around 60.6 percent.
Although the handle was higher, the state of Indiana actually lost some taxable revenue in November. The total sports betting taxes collected in November was around $883,361.
October brought in more tax dollars for the state. In October, the state collected $1.1 million in taxes from sports betting. So, although sports bettors in Indiana are betting more, they are winning more as well.
High Online Traffic
A good percentage of the sports betting revenue came from online traffic. Statewide mobile sports betting is allowed in Indiana and bettors from the state are taking advantage of it.
Around 65.3 percent of the total handle came from mobile and online sports bets. It is about 10 percent more than the online handle from October. The potential for mobile sports betting in Indiana could be even higher.
New Jersey and Pennsylvania primarily receive the majority of their sports betting revenue from online bets. In fact, 80 percent of their total revenue comes from online bets. These two states allow for remote registration and statewide mobile betting much like Indiana.
Online sports betting in Indiana is growing at a similar rate that New Jersey and Pennsylvania did. It is only a matter of time before mobile bets dominate the Indiana sports betting market.
As Indiana’s sports betting market matures, more people in the state are flocking towards their sportsbooks. They are even receiving traffic from people in Illinois and Ohio. This is especially true as the end of the NFL season is approaching and the final games are bound to attract more bettors.
