- The Iowa House of Representatives passed an expansion sports betting bill.
- HF 2497 will allow for betting on Esports, NFL Draft, and Heisman Trophy odds.
DES MOINES, Ia. – While sports betting in Iowa has taken off since its launch in August 2019, the state has come to terms on expanding their sports betting market.
The Iowa House of Representatives voted 71-28 in favor of expanding the Iowa sports betting bill with HF 2497 that will allow for bettors in the state to now bet on Esports, the NFL Draft, Heisman Trophy winner, and other charitable events.
The expansion on Esports was a long-time coming being that when daily fantasy sports in the state became regulated in 2020, they included Esports in their platforms.
In order for the bill expansion to pass now, it must go through the State Committee for the final vote which will need to take place on or before March 18. If the bill does pass through the committee, the expansion won’t go into play until July 1st meaning there will not be any NFL Daft betting this year regardless in the Hawkeye State.
Other Parts Of The Expansion
Aside from now being able to bet on the NFL Draft, Esports, and others, the expansion includes other key additions. One includes casino players that are in person to now use eWallets on mobile devices to fund their casino gaming. This is major being that almost all smartphones have wallets attached to them including iPhone, Android, and Samsung.
The expansion also plays a role in those actually working in the casinos themselves. They will no longer require non-gaming workers to retrieve a gaming license to work on those casino properties.
