TOPEKA, Kan. – After Gov. Laura Kelly signed Senate Bill 84 on July 1, Kansas sports betting is getting closer to legal sports betting with the betting rules recently being approved. Nothing is yet finalized, but the goal of the Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission through this process has been to have an NFL launch for sports betting in Kansas.
These regulations for legal sports betting were unanimously approved but the Attorney General’s Office still has to sign off on this next step. Derek Schmidt, the head of the department, is expected to sign off on the regulations this week.
Plenty Of Sportsbook To Go Around
As it is currently constructed, there are four casinos that will have the opportunity to team up with three sportsbook operators each in Kansas for mobile sports betting. Kansas will also have legal retail sports betting and they will both launch separately in the market.
After Schmidt signs off on the regulations, the next step will be for the casino manager to sign contracts with the Kansas state lottery. There is technically no rush, with a deadline for launching legal sports betting set for the begging if 2023.
However, Kansas sports betting could take advantage of the start of the NFL season, by launching as soon as possible.
“Getting people to agree to a contract for something brand new in Kansas does take some time,” said David Moses, chairmen of KRGC. “I’m sure they’re working diligently to get that done.”
Mobile Sportsbooks Wasting No Time
With Kansas inching closer to offering sports betting, sportsbook operators are moving quickly to acquire their customers in the Sunflower State. DraftKings launched pre-registration last week, and Barstool sportsbook is attempting to secure a retail betting location.
Caesars sportsbook has also made a move, offering Kansas bettors a $1,500 risk-free bet to claim. This bonus can be used as soon as mobile sports wagering officially hits the Kansas market.
