KHRC Approves Sports Betting Licenses of 7 Operators, Tracks

• The Kentucky Horse Racing Commission approved temporary licenses for seven sportsbook operators and seven racetracks on Tuesday.
• Every Kentucky applicant, including Penn Entertainment’s ESPN BET, received temporary licenses.
• Retail sports betting launches on September 7 and mobile sports betting launches on September 28.

FRANKFORT, Ky.– The Kentucky Horse Racing Commission (KHRC) met on Tuesday afternoon to approve applications from the state’s seven licensed racetracks and seven sports betting operators. Each applicant was granted a temporary license to offer retail and online sports betting in Kentucky.

With legal sports betting launching at Kentucky retail locations in 16 days, residents can place their bets at these seven racetracks with retail sports betting licenses.

• Ellis Park, Henderson
• Oak Grove Gaming and Racing, Oak Grove
• The Red Mile, Lexington
• Sandy’s Gaming and Racing, Ashland
• Turfway Park, Florence

The state’s seven licensed racetrack were officially approved for temporary sports betting licenses. The Kentucky Horse Racing Commission also approved seven online sports betting operators with temporary service provider licenses.

Each racetrack partners with one of the seven unanimously approved Kentucky sports betting operators.

The Kentucky Horse Racing Commission approved all seven of the Kentucky sports betting applicants on Tuesday. If the sports betting operators meet certain conditions set by the KHRC, their temporary licenses will become permanent.

Small Differences

An interesting difference between the seven legal online sportsbooks is their minimum betting age. DraftKings, who received approval on Tuesday afternoon, allows customers 18 or older.

This falls in line with the legal Kentucky sports betting age of 18, but other operators are sticking to their 21+ policy. BetMGM and Caesars Sportsbook are two operators who only serve players 21 or older in the Blue Grass State.

Caesars plans to open the first brick and mortar sportsbook in Kentucky after becoming the official sports betting partner of Keeneland and Red Mile.
