OSCEOLA, Iowa – Lakeside Hotel and Casino, a property of Affinity Gaming, will be one of the first gaming facilities to launch a sportsbook in Iowa this week.
According to a press release sent out by Affinity Gaming, the ribbon-cutting ceremony is set to kick off on August 15, 2019, at 11:30 a.m. CT. WWII veteran and Clarke County resident, Joseph Reynolds, will have the honor of placing the first sports bet at 12 p.m. CT.
“Our new sportsbook will provide the highest level of entertainment and customer service in Iowa,” said David Monroe, VP and general manager for Lakeside Hotel and Casino. “We are excited to partner with William Hill and take the sports betting experience to the next level.”
As soon as guests step off the escalator to the lower level, they will be able to see the newly renovated sports betting area. This particular Iowa sportsbook features (14) 65-inch viewing monitors with 4K LCD displays and two 86-inch monitors with 4K Ultra HD displays.
“Our new sportsbook at Lakeside Hotel and Casino expands our long-standing partnership with Affinity Gaming,” said David Grolman, president of retail operations for William Hill US. “We have operated their sportsbooks in Nevada for many years and look forward to providing exciting new experiences to resort guests and sports fans in Iowa.”
However, Iowa residents should keep in mind that there are a couple of key differences between legal sports bets in the Hawkeye State and Nevada.
The first is that sports betting laws in Iowa do not allow for prop bets to be placed on college athletes that play at Iowa based schools. You will still be able to place bets on the Iowa Hawkeyes or the Iowa State Cyclones, just not on the team’s individual players.
The second aspect to keep in mind is that in order to use the William Hill sportsbook app in Iowa, bettors must first sign up in-person at Lakeside Hotel and Casino. This registration rule was put in IA SF 617 will remain in place until January 1, 2021.
Lakeside Hotel and Casino is located off of I-35, Exit 34 in Osceola, Iowa, and is just south of West Des Moines.
