East Rutherford, N.J. – A tail as tragic to Jets fans as ever pinned by Shakespeare or tweeted by Adam Schefter came to an end Tuesday night when the New York Jets waived Le’Veon Bell. Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more Le’Veon will go it just won’t be with Gang Green
Jets tried to trade Le’Veon Bell for weeks, dating back to last year’s trade deadline. There were no takers. Tonight they released him. Bell now is a free agent. https://t.co/i12gKi220k

Bell played in just 17 games and underperformed to say the least. Having earned $27,500,000 or $104,167 per rush attempt, $20,176 for every yard from scrimmage and $6,875,000 per touchdown.

The move leaves the Jets with $15m in dead cap space this year and $4m in 2021. They also have a whopping $81M of cap space in 2021 to go shopping with. More than enough to reload with a high draft pick that they will most likely have.
With the release of Le’Veon Bell, the #Jets now have just 35 players under contract for 2021. If the salary cap drops to $175M, they’ll have an estimated $81M to work with as of today. https://t.co/9KltOYIUTq

For his part Le’Veon doesn’t seem to be bothered by the news.

With as bad as Adam Gase has been, and subsequently the Jets as a whole who could blame him around the NFL? Jamal Adams sure doesn’t!

With several teams in need of help in the backfield Bell will be signed in short order and should find himself in a considerably better situation. And maybe we can see the grudge match play out in a different week. Sportsbooks will likely have odds on his next team soon.
