Julio Jones Trade

Possibly the biggest trade that occurred so far this offseason is the Tennessee Titans trading for Julio Jones. This immediately affected the betting lines at online sportsbooks when announced.

The Chiefs also resigned OL Andrew Wylie, signed OT Prince Tega Wanogho to strengthen their backups in case of injury, and released LT Eric Fisher and RT Mitchell Schwartz.

The offensive line isn’t the only thing they worked on. QB Patrick Mahomes also gained a slew of new weapons with the front office signing WR Daurice Fountain, WR Chris Finke, and TE Nick Keizer.

With these moves, the Chiefs offense is expected to be explosive this season and those betting on the Super Bowl have taken notice.

Rookies Affecting The Lines

Another big thing affecting betting lines are the incoming rookie QBs from the 2021 NFL Draft.

Starting with the number one pick Trevor Lawrence, the Jacksonville Jaguars saw their odds affect as soon as he was selected.

Opening, the Jaguars had +12500 odds prior to the draft. Jacksonville now sits at +10000 at online sportsbooks.

Trevor Lawrence was a dominant college QB, winning one National Championship with the Clemson Tigers and being named Offensive MVP all in his freshman year.

Sports betting fans are expecting to see an immediate impact from Lawrence as he works to turn around a team coming off of a two-win season.

The New England Patriots also saw their odds shorten following the draft. The Patriots selected Mac Jones with the 15-overall pick, shortening their odds from +3000 to +2500.

Mac Jones is the QB of the future for New England, although he is not expected to start Week 1 coming behind Cam Newton.
