Mahomes Vs. Rodgers Sets Up Week 9 NFL Betting Focus

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Green Bay Packers and Kansas City Chiefs will meet in Week 9 which means Patrick Mahomes and Aaron Rodgers will face off against one another.

The Opening Betting Lines

It seems as if the legal sports betting sites are giving Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs the early edge over Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers in Week 9. Although the line will likely see some movement in either direction, the Chiefs are currently favored by less than a field goal.

Green Bay has been one of the best bets in the NFL this year with a 7-1 ATS record including seven straight games in which they covered.

Kansas City, prior to their game in Week 8, has been one of the worst bets on NFL sportsbooks with their 2-5 ATS record.

How The Teams Stack Up

The Packers are outscoring opponents by an average mark of 24.0-20.9 while Kansas City is being outscored 26.9-29.0 on average. It’s easy to forget because it’s the Chiefs with Mahomes under center, but Green Bay has been exponentially better this season.

Kansas City is just 3-4 on the season with Green Bay sitting comfortably at 7-1. However, there’s fair reason to suspect that Kansas City should have a better record than they do and that Green Bay should have a worse record.

The Packers are only outgaining their opponent by 3.0 yards per game while Kansas City does so by 14.3 yards per game. Neither team is exceptional in that department, but it also doesn’t look to be the difference between a three-win and seven-win team.

Odds Likely To Move

The Chiefs have yet to play their Week 8 game and with another 60 minutes of film on Kansas City, sportsbooks will likely change the lines a bit before next weekend’s kickoff. There’s already shading in the direction of Kansas City, so it’s safe to assume the Packers will be at least a field goal underdog at some point.

The game is set to have a 4:25 p.m. EST kick-off and will air on FOX.
