BALTIMORE – In a 10 a.m. EST meeting on Thursday, the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency officially awarded sportsbook licenses to future Maryland sportsbooks.
While not disclosed during the meeting, the agency also stated there will be an announcement displaying the launch date of Maryland sports betting apps.
According to John Martin, the agency’s director, that date is Wednesday, November 23.
Seven Maryland legal sports betting operators will be available to launch on that day. Some, including Caesars have even allowed players to sign up to gain familiarity with their account.

Three will show delays to launching in BetFred, Fanatics, and Parx. Meanwhile, BetMGM accidentally allowed a bet to fall through the cracks.
While the legal sports bet was refunded, the user gained an additional $50 in credit. For MGM, a fine could perhaps hit their desk in the future.
“No launches will occur before that date. Businesses that have been awarded licenses by SWARC and have completed all operational tasks by the initial start date will be given clearance to launch on that date.”
With 11 more online sportsbook licenses to review, SWARC’s next meeting will keep the Maryland sportsbook launch continuing.
When it is all said and done, Martin expects “an annual run rate of about $25-30 million dollars of additional tax revenue… for the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future fund.”
