TAMPA, Fla. – Jim McIngvale, the furniture mogul also known as “Mattress Mack” is at it again as he has refused to put his high stakes bets to rest.
According to DraftKings, Mattress Mack has placed one of the largest individual Super Bowl bets in history as he has wagered $3.46 million on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to cover the 3.5 point spread. He made the legal sports bet on his mobile device at the Colorado Springs Airport.
“Tampa Bay is loaded with talent on both sides of the ball and led by the greatest football player of all time in Tom Brady, so I’m betting big on the Bucs who have overcome tough matchups throughout this postseason,” said McIngvale about his bet. “The NFL has only seen eight instances of back-to-back champions and none in the past 16 years, so I like my chances going into Super Bowl LV for this trend to continue. DraftKings has been amazing; providing a safe, legal and fantastic customer experience.”
Who is Mattress Mack?
Jim McIngvale is a high roller sports bettor who earned his name as Mattress Mack by running a promotion during the 2019 MLB World Series.
The promotion promised customers who spent $3,000 on certain mattress purchases a full refund if the Houston Astros won the World Series. The Astros ended up striking out and costing Mattress Mack $13 million dollars in the process.
Despite losing millions, Mattress Mack hasn’t stopped making huge bets on some of the biggest stages in sports. He famously bet against the Kansas City Chiefs during last year’s Super Bowl run. He bet against them during the Divisional Round of the playoffs when playing against the Houston Texans and again during Super Bowl LIV when they played against the San Francisco 49ers.
He’s 0-3 with his large NFL Playoff picks but picking the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to cover the +3.5 point spread is a way for him to manage his risk a little more than picking them straight up.
“For Super Bowl LV, Mack is handicapping the game out of pure belief that the Buccaneers can either win or at least cover the spread, said Johnny Avello, Director of Race and Bookmaking operations at DraftKings. “We are not strangers to taking significant action, particularly on one of the biggest sports events in the country. Looking at the way we have booked the Super Bowl so far, bettors are laying -3 on the Chiefs and taking the Buccaneers at +3.5 as fans try to get the best possible line.”
The Buccaneers are 4-0 against the spread in their last four games as the underdog. If this trend continues, Mattress Mack will stand to win $2.72 million.
