PITTSBURGH – A DraftKings Sportsbook will be opening at Pennsylvania’s Meadows Racetrack & Casino after receiving approval by state regulators to become a licensed operation.
With the approval of the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) to apply for a license to operate a sports wagering site with Meadows, their actual license is set to be viewed on October 30. They should be officially able to go live and operate with a full-fledged license by November. The approval by the PGCB has not only allowed them to apply for a license but to begin a testing phase at the casino on October 8 and to be functioning normally for wagers on October 10.
DraftKings has been the biggest fantasy sports operator in the Keystone State, ousting its competitor FanDuel. This deal with Meadows has allowed DraftKings to finally break into an actual partnership with a sports betting lounge located in the state. Kambi will be providing the odds and other services for the actual brick and mortar facility, and DraftKings will be providing the online platform for the sports wagering section of the casino.
The Valley Forge Casino in Prussia has a FanDuel Sportsbook and has made over a third of all profits for the state in the sports wagering market. DraftKings was chosen by Meadows because of their huge popularity within the state. With so many residents having accounts with them when it comes to fantasy sports, the transition should be an easy one which theoretically will equate to more business for the casino.
Bettors in the state placed over $109 million in sports bets for the month of August alone. That is an 84% spike from July based on the data given by the PGCB. The jump in betting is attributed to the start of both college and professional football. It looks as though DraftKings and Meadows Casino & Racetrack have entered the sports wagering side of gambling at a prime time to do some real business with the sports enthusiasts of Pennsylvania.
