Medvedev Is An Outright Favorite To Make Aussie Open Finals

MELBOURNE, Australia – Daniil Medvedev is the favorite to win the Australian Open and has favorable odds to reach the finals.

When Novak Djokovic was forced to pull out of the 2022 Australian Open, eyes immediately turned toward Medvedev as the betting favorite to win the event. Legal sports betting sites have him as the only competitor with favored odds to reach the finals.

In order to reach the final, he’ll likely have to get past Diego Schwartzman who’s never reached an Australian Open quarterfinal, either Andrey Rublev or Felix Auger-Aliassime and then would likely meet Stefanos Tsitsipas in the semifinals. It’s a tough path, but he is the No. 2 player in the world and the highest-ranked player in the tournament.

Unsurprisingly, he’s also the favorite to win the entire tournament.

If he were to reach the finals, either Alexander Zverev or Rafael Nadal would be waiting for him. Those betting on tennis should note that Medvedev has a 6-6 record against Zverev, but has won five of the last six meetings. He’s also just 1-3 against Nadal but did win the most recent encounter in 2020.

It’s ultimately up to the individual bettor to decide whether the -120 or +150 price is a better bet to make, but it does seem it’s safer to take the -120 odds as the added risk doesn’t seem worth the reward.
