The MLS will soon join the ranks of the other professional sports leagues that have partnerships with gaming companies.

In an interview with Sports Illustrated on Tuesday, MLS Commissioner, Don Garber, spoke on the how the MLS will adjust to sports gambling legislation. The partnerships have yet to be released, but Garber gave a teaser during the interview.

“I’m a big believer in ‘something has been going on, we might as well find a way to monetize it’. We’re working hard to figure out the right way to do that.”

With this embrace, the league is looking at ways to connect those fans who want to be able to utilize gaming to get some benefits.

As there are plans in place to have a gaming company sponsor the league as well as have an outlet for official data to be released, betting on the MLS will become mainstream.

“I see no reason why people can’t go into a game… and place a bet,” said Garber. “If they can do it in the UK, why can’t they do it here in the United States?”

Garber continued to explain that it’s not only about betting on the outcome of the game. There are many in-play prop bets and situational occurrences that can keep the fans engaged.

“All pro sports leagues are looking for ways that they can connect with their fans more closely”

Upon the official release of the news, the MLS will join the NBA, NHL, and MLB as leagues who have signed sports betting deals. The NFL has agreed to name Caesars as their “official casino sponsor of the NFL” but has not made any moves towards having a betting partnership.
