HARTFORD, Conn. – Those looking to place sports bets in Connecticut over their mobile devices will get their first taste of what that will look like with the Mohegan Sun Beyond app.
Last week, Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment (MGE) announced a multi-year partnership with iPro Inc., an online gambling provider, to provide guests of the flagship CT property with a free-to-play mobile casino and sportsbook platform.
“At Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment, we are focused on providing a customer experience unlike any other and we’re thrilled to bring this application to life so guests can enjoy our gaming offerings where ever they are in one connected experience,” said Mario Kontomerkos, CEO of Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment.
The app can be used at the casino or at home and allows users to earn Momentum loyalty dollars that they can then use for future visits to Mohegan Sun properties.
MGE currently has casinos and resorts in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Canada, and Connecticut. Both Pennsylvania and New Jersey already offer real-money legal sports wagering through retail and mobile sportsbooks.
However, Connecticut still has not finalized official regulations over sports wagering, despite having legalized the activity in 2017.
Concerns over who would operate the amenity were highly contentious this past legislative session, with tribes threatening to cease making payments to the state if they aren’t awarded exclusivity over the practice.
If state lawmakers do decide to legalize sports betting in Connecticut, the Mohegan Sun Beyond app will be ready.
“We chose iPro as our partner because of their outstanding technology that can work both for online real money gaming and social free-to-play casino games,” said Aviram Alroy, Vice President of Interactive Gaming at MGE.
The 2019 legislative session for Connecticut concluded3 last month, so any new attempts at passing a bill to create sports wagering regulations will have to wait until next year. The Mohegan Sun Beyond app is expected to still be in operation by then and will add new features along the way.
“This new platform is the most advanced, integrated casino resort online product and solution available on the market,” said Robert Melendres, founder and CEO of iPro.
“As one of the leading global integrated casino resorts, MGE is the perfect partner and we are excited to continue providing their guests with a best-in-class connected experience.”
