WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – Sports betting will soon be coming to northeastern Pennsylvania.
The Mohegan Sun Pocono received the news from the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board on Wednesday that their request to offer legal sports betting was accepted.
The sportsbook will be operated by Kindred Group, formerly known as Unibet Group. Kindred operates gambling brands across the US, Europe, and Australia.
At the Mohegan Sun Pocono, bettors will be able to lay down a variety of wager types on various sports. Aside from the popular American sports, betting lines will be offered for golf, tennis, NASCAR, rugby, UFC, La Liga, Premier League, and many more.
Between straight bets, fixed odds, money lines, in-play betting, and parlays, sports bettors will not be at a loss for choices.
Casino officials have already laid out plans for their sports betting lounge, which will be near the casino’s front lobby net to Molly O’Sheas.
“The main reason to place it by the entrance is for the customer that just wants to pop in, place a bet, and then leave,” said Tony Carlucci, the casino’s president.
The 1,130 square-foot smoke-free lounge will have an HD video wall 8 feet wide and 15 feet high. Around the sides of the video wall will be four additional TVs displaying sporting events from around the world.
The seating capacity is expected to hold 75 customers, where 23 high chairs and 42 stadium lounge seats will be offered.
Bettors will have easy access to place wagers with seven self-service kiosks and three booths with active operators standing by.
Carlucci expects the lounge opening to employ an additional dozen people at the casino.
While the casino is still awaiting their approval from the PGCB for online wagering, Carlucci anticipates the lounge will be ready by the start of the college football season.
Aside from the sportsbook news, the Mohegan Sun Pocono also received the news that their request to move the poker room to the main floor was approved.
