- Motorsports returns to the top 10 after falling out in the month of April showing increasing attention across the sport as it progresses throughout the season.
- DENVER – The world of motorsports betting received some positive news this week as the state of Colorado released its gambling numbers for the month of May.
After falling out of the top 10 most bet on sports, motorsports made its way back into the top tier of sports with a strong May month across all of Colorado’s legal sportsbooks.
Total betting revenue is tracked in Colorado by specific sport, with motorsports receiving its own unique date.
This is unique for Colorado as other states like New Jersey and Nevada only track data for sports like football, basketball, and baseball while placing other sports into a separate grouped category.
After falling out of the top 10 most bet on sports in the month of April, motorsports betting in Colorado for the month of May reached an all-time high of $718,489 according to official figures released by the state.
That is the highest figure for motorsports since betting was launched in the state in May of 2020.
The previous record handle was $666,413 which was hit in February of this year when the NASCAR season kicked off its season in Daytona.
Legal auto racing betting was also one of just two sports to beat the Colorado bookies in the month of May. The report shows that $735,608 was paid back to the bettors in May with a loss of around $17,000 for the bookies.
This would be the first time in CO’s short gambling history that motorsports bettors came out on top.
This influx of betting could likely be due to the crazy run experienced by Hendrick Motorsports’ Kyle Larson. Larson went on a run of four consecutive races won, bring many eyes to the sport that previously had wandered.
This week, the best NACAR have to offer head to Atlanta for the Quaker State 400 where Larson is again the heavy favorite to win.
2021 Quaker State 400 Odds To Win
- Kyle Larson +300
- Kyle Busch +800
- Chase Elliott +900
- Denny Hamlin +900
- Martin Truex Jr +900
- Kevin Harvick +1000
- Brad Keselowski +1000
- Ryan Blaney +1100
- William Byron +1300
- Joey Logano +1300
- Alex Bowman +1600
With or without Larson’s continued dominance, it is a positive sign to see motorsports taking hold in new gambling markets around the country.
This is trend that, if continued, will enhance the future potential of the sport in betting integration for years to come.
