- Nevada sportsbooks handled a record-breaking $409 million in July 2021.
- Baseball accounted for more than half of July’s betting handle.
- Out of season, football made up about $1 million for July’s handle.
LAS VEGAS – Sportsbooks in Nevada are crushing the summer betting drought; July 2021 has been the most profitable July for Nevada sportsbooks yet, boasting a record-breaking $409 million handle.
For contrast, in July of 2020 Nevada’s legal sportsbooks only handled $165 million, nearly $250 million less than their 2021 handle.
Why Did Nevada Do So Well This Year?
Thanks to Las Vegas and its thriving gambling culture, Nevada has always done very well for itself in terms of gambling revenue, but not normally this good. The factors that contributed to Nevada’s unprecedented success for July appear to be two things – baseball and Connor McGregor’s fight with Dustin Poirier.
The UFC is already a very popular sport to bet on, but the inclusion of McGregor and his popularity drew more attention than an average match.
The real winning sport for July was the MLB. According to the July Nevada sports betting report, baseball betting made up more than half of every wager made in July.
NFL Betting Season
Although football only accounted for about a $1 million handle in July, NFL betting fans are already prepping for the 2021 season.
In 2020, Nevada experienced its most profitable yearly fourth quarter on record thanks to the NFL season and football betting. If 2020’s betting handles were suggestive of what’s in store for Nevada in 2021, Nevada sports betting fans can look forward to a massive year for the gambling industry.
