New York Becomes First State With $2B Monthly Betting Handle

• New York became the first state to reach a $2 billion sports betting handle in one month.

• New York made over $166 thousand in gross gaming revenue for October.

NEW YORK – New York sports bettors wagered over $2 billion in online and mobile sports betting in October. The astounding monthly handle is the highest ever recorded for a state post-PAPSA.

New York hit the historic milestone thanks to two massive weeks. The week of Oct. 22 through Oct. 29 was New York’s biggest legal sports betting week ever with a handle of $527.39 million.

The week before that, the Empire State recorded their fourth-biggest week at $464.02 million. All four of New York’s biggest all-time weeks for online sports betting handle occurred in the last six weeks.

FanDuel Continues Dominance In The Empire State

Most of the legal New York sports betting handle goes to FanDuel, who earned more than $83 million off their $891.9 million in October wagers.

DraftKings made $59.3 million in revenue from a $652.3 million October handle. There’s a big drop off in October handle and revenue for other legal online sportsbooks after FanDuel and DraftKings.

Caesars follows with $193.2 million in handle and $10.9 million in revenue. BetMGM and BetRivers both earned less than $10 million in New York sports betting revenue.

The New York State Gaming Commission released the information in their monthly mobile sports wagering report. October’s handle increased $30.5% from last year’s figure at $1.54 billion.

New York has the third-highest handle since the United States sports betting industry expanded outside of Nevada in 2018. Online sports betting launched in the Empire State in January, 2022.
