- New York’s online sportsbooks are just days away from launching, with regulators maintaining a goal launch timeframe of the second or third week of January.
- The nine licensed sportsbooks should be available for most of the NFL playoffs, but the exact launch date will determine how much of the playoffs will be remaining for bettors to wager on.
ALBANY, N.Y. – New York is on the cusp of launching mobile sports betting, with the launch likely coming in the second or third week of January.
While there is still no concrete launch date in place, regulators have maintained that a mid-January launch of the mobile sportsbooks is the most likely scenario in New York. While a launch in this timeframe would definitely allow sports bettors in New York to wager on the Super Bowl, the exact launch date will determine exactly how much of the NFL playoffs will be remaining for bettors to wager on.
If mobile sports betting was to launch in the second week of January, sportsbooks will be up-and-running in time for bettors to wager on the entirety of the 2022 NFL playoffs, including the Wild Card round.
If they launch in the third week of January, however, bettors may only be able to wager on the conference championship games and the Super Bowl, greatly limiting New York’s legal sports betting revenue potential for the month.
The first NFL playoff game of 2022 is scheduled for Saturday, January 15 – towards the beginning of the likely range of launch dates – making it fairly unlikely that mobile sports betting is in place in time for the Wild Card round. However, if mobile sports betting in New York launches on the following Friday (January 21), sportsbooks would be in place in time for the entirety of the NFL playoffs, with the exception of the Wild Card round.
What Mobile Sportsbooks Will Be Available In New York?
At launch, there will be nine mobile sportsbooks licensed by the New York Gaming Commission and available to sports bettors of New York.
