NEW YORK – After months of being closed due to the outbreak of COVID-19, Governor Andrew Cuomo has given his approval for sportsbooks in the state to begin reopening on Wednesday.
The timing couldn’t be better as the start of the NFL season kicks off on Thursday night.
The Coronavirus Pandemic is still very much an issue in the state, so the openings of these establishments will have some very strict guidelines to follow to be able to conduct their operations safely.
The Reopening Of Sportsbooks In New York
Both malls and casinos with enhanced air filtration systems are now eligible to reopen in the Empire State. Sports betting venues within these casinos have also opened but the entire facility can only function at 25% capacity and no food or beverage service will be allowed on the betting floor.
All of these establishments have been closed for nearly six months so while major restrictions are being implemented, any type of business they can get is welcomed.
Sportsbooks in the state do not allow for mobile platforms which means they’ve been completely shutout and trying to remain afloat during this very long hiatus.
Rivers Casino in Schenectady New York will be having their grand reopening at 6 p.m. EST on Wednesday. Their new hours of operation will be from 8 a.m. to 2 a.m. daily so that the remainder of the time can go toward the thorough cleaning and sanitizing of the gaming areas. Cleanings will also be done while patrons are there, to ensure an extra amount of safety.
Face masks are required by all sports betting facilities to be worn by both customers and staff. Each of the sportsbooks in New York should fall in line with Rivers as they are complying with the guidelines that have been put in place for the state. The 25% capacity rule is for the purposes of proper social distancing.
“The Rivers Team has been working hand-in-hand with the state to make all the changes necessary to reopen and we will meet, or exceed, all requirements to provide a safe and healthy entertainment environment,” said Justin Moore, Rivers Casino & Resort Schenectady General Manager. “The health and well-being of our Team Members, guests, and the community is our highest priority. We’re eagerly looking forward to welcoming everyone back to Rivers.”
New York sports bettors willing to venture out to the casinos can now place their bets on the upcoming NFL games without missing a single matchup of the season.
This is great news for New Yorkers and for the industry, which has sustained quite a beating from being out of operation for so long.
These businesses are hoping they will be able to make up for the lost time and recoup some of the money they’ve lost by eager gamblers in the state ready to wager on some football among other sports.
In doing so, they will be able to help the economy of the Empire State which is very much in need of all the revenue they can get after being hit hard by the Coronavirus Pandemic.
