NFL Draft To Effect Redskins, Lions, Dolphins Over/Under Win Total

LAS VEGAS – As the NFL continues to prepare for the first virtual draft in history, oddsmakers are also rolling out team win totals for the upcoming 2020 season.

Many of these lines will likely shift depending on which players each team drafts, which makes now the best time for those betting on the NFL to get in on any numbers that look appetizing.

For some teams, these numbers will change heavily based on the events of Thursday’s NFL Draft. Few rookies have the ability to come in and directly effect a team’s win total, but this draft possesses some choice candidates.

Probably the biggest story heading into the draft, is which team will take the risk on Alabama Crimson Tide QB Tua Tagovailoa. The recently healthy Hawaiian native has been rapidly shifting positions on mock draft boards and could even be the third quarterback taken after Oregon’s Justin Herbert.

Speculation on his future performance alone could shift the Over/Under win total odds for these three possible destinations.

Detroit Lions

The first two picks are seemingly decided, with the Cincinnati Bengals slotted to take Joe Burrow, and the Washington Redskins eyeing Chase Young. However, the third through fifth spot has seen much movement across the mock draft boards. Sitting at that third spot is the Detroit Lions.

The Lions dragged themselves to a 3-12-1 season last year due to a terrible defense and lack of overall consistency. Nonetheless, analysts agree that this ugly product was not the fault of long time QB Matthew Stafford. While the Lions are certainly looking to upgrade, it will most likely not come in the form of a new quarterback. Bettors looking to make any moves on this line will want to watch and see if the Lions do the right thing and draft defense.

Miami Dolphins

At the head of this quarterback drama are the Miami Dolphins. A team in desperate need of identity, looking to use their fifth overall choice on someone who can come in and make an immediate impact.

Proving that hype is a dangerous tool, this line opened at 5 ½ for -110 and quickly shifted to 6 wins. While Miami certainly had its struggles last season, it is hard to argue that they didn’t go on the field each week and try to compete.

Miami has recently been having discussions about trading up in the draft, and possibly selecting Herbert over the much-rumored Tagovailoa. Expect this win line to move even further following the first round of Thursday’s draft, as it appears there is much more movement to be made from the Dolphins camp.

Washington Redskins

Even with the Washington Redskins second overall pick seemingly set in stone, their win total bet is worth a deeper look.

When deciding upon wagering on the Redskins in recent history, taking the losing side has seen more payouts. After a 3-13 season in 2019, it is going to take a lot more than Chase Young to turn around a franchise that hasn’t won a playoff game since 2005.
