DENVER – Eyioma Uwazurike of the Denver Broncos is suspended indefinitely for violating the NFL’s gambling policy. Uwazurike bet on league games during the 2022 NFL season.
The surge in legal sports betting across the United States has gotten more players getting involved with betting, but the NFL is responsible for uninformed players on whether they can bet or not.
Sean Payton, head coach of the Denver Broncos, told reporters “We got a packet from the league,” Payton said. “Obviously, when policies change, it’s our job to educate [the players]. [Vice President of football operations & compliance] Mark Thewes was awesome. We’re professional teachers. The packet we received, we looked at, studied [it] closely and then we presented it in our own PowerPoint. I probably had 20 minutes on it to really make sure everyone has it.”
Eyioma Uwazurike joins a crowded group of NFL players suspended for gambling violations in recent months. Uwazurike is the 10th NFL player to be suspended for betting violations this year.

The NFL’s gambling policy prohibits players from betting on the NFL, betting on any sport at an NFL facility (which includes team hotels on the road), having other people make bets for them, entering brick and mortar sportsbooks, and playing daily fantasy football.
With the NFL’s thoughts on sports betting changing in recent years through sportsbook partnerships, the amount of NFL players violating the NFL’s gambling policy continues to pile up.
