- North Carolina is recruiting a Director of Licensing for their sports betting operations.
- The position requires overseeing and developing all licensing frameworks, in addition to other responsibilities.
- Legal North Carolina sports betting will launch between January 8 and June 14, 2024.
RALEIGH, N.C. – The North Carolina Education Lottery posted a job application for a Director of Licensing for their future sports betting operations. North Carolina is recruiting a qualified leader to develop and manage sports betting licensing in the state.
With legal sports betting coming to the Tar Heel State in early 2024, an overseer for sports betting licensing is an essential addition. The job application cites an extensive number of responsibilities, but a good understanding of the position can be achieved with just a few lines.
- Develop and implement licensing policies and practices aligning with the North Carolina Lottery Commission.
- Oversee the evaluation of all sports betting applicants, while also overseeing the review and annualization of financial documents, bank statements and other records to accurately award licenses.
- Monitor regulatory compliance and develop the department’s operational plans and annual budget.
- Review and update department policy, research and recommend products, and oversee application and renewal processes.
The entire list of responsibilities stretches 15 bullet points with plenty of detail. However, it’s a good thing that North Carolina is taking the necessary steps to ensure their legal online sportsbooks are in compliance with the North Carolina Lottery Commission’s requirements.
The application also requires candidates to have at least five years of supervisory experience in licensing operations, a Bachelor’s Degree, and be a resident of North Carolina.
North Carolina signed the Sports Wagering and Horse Racing Wagering Law on June 14, 2023, which required the state to legalize sports betting no more than a year later. However, with the commission aiming to launch as possible, legal North Carolina sports betting could launch as early as January 8, 2024.
