MURPHY, N.C. – Sports betting fans in North Carlina now have access to regulated sportsbooks as the official launch kicks off Thursday.
The Harrah’s Cherokee Casino Resort in Cherokee and the Harrah’s Cherokee Valley River Casino & Hotel in Murphy are the first two locations opening sportsbooks known as The Book.
The Book will be the retail lounge for residents and tourists to partake in North Carolina sports betting. The Old North now enters the legal sports betting market.
Betting In North Carolina
Local betting fans have been waiting for over a year after NC legislators passed SB 154 to see a sports betting market officially launch.
The reason it took so long was that regulators were working out the final rules for sports betting. The process is now competing, and the Harrah’s casinos in Cherokee and Murphy now offer betting lines for all legal-age residents.
We are pleased to announce that The Book, North Carolina’s first and premiere sports betting venue, will open two locations to the public immediately following a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10 am on Thursday, March 18.

The Book at the two Harrah’s Casinos will be full-service sports betting lounges with betting kiosks, big-screen TVs displaying games and odds, and luxury seating.
“We are excited to offer legal sports betting at The Book, and just in time for March Madness,” said Richard Sneed, Principal Chief of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians. “We would like to thank our partners at William Hill and Harrah’s Cherokee Casinos, as well as members of the state, for making this opening possible.”
There will also be a 19-foot ultra-definition screen that will show game highlights and score tickers. Additionally, there will be several ticket-writer windows for players to place action.
Reservations for private VIP rooms known as the Fan Caves or Upper Deck will be available to patrons as well who book in advance.
“We are grateful for our relationship and partnership with the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians and are ready for sports fans to join us at The Book at Harrah’s Cherokee Casinos,” said Brooks Robinson, Regional Senior Vice President & General Manager of Harrah’s Cherokee Casinos. “We are proud to house North Carolina’s first sports betting venues and are confident that it will be an amenity our guests will enjoy.”
North Carolina is starting sports betting off right with the launch of The book at the Harrah’s Casinos in Cherokee and Murphy.
