- The odds for the U.S. to issue a nationwide lockdown are at -150 at online sportsbooks.
- The most effective way to contain the virus would be through a self-quarantine period.
- Other countries in Europe have gone on lockdown to try and contain the virus.
WASHINGTON — As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to spread throughout the world, countries are beginning to go on full lockdown to try and stop the virus in its tracks. Sportsbooks have released odds for if the United States will be the next country to issue a nationwide lockdown.
Other countries, particularly in Europe, have taken these extreme measures due to the number of citizens who have contracted or died from the virus. These lockdowns come with rules that the citizens of those countries need to abide by.
Quarantine Period
Legal sports betting sites have released odds on if the United States will order a nationwide quarantine period. The odds are in favor of a nationwide quarantine at -150 while the opposing odds for no quarantine period are at +110.
If there were to be a quarantine period, it would most likely last for a 14 day period as symptoms do not show right away. It takes about 11.5 days for symptoms to start showing up. This would be the most effective solution for the United States to try and contain the infamous COVID-19.
As a precautionary measure, the United States has already issued a travel ban on several countries to try and prevent any more cases coming into the United States.
It would be a smart move for bettors to bet in favor of the quarantine period as the spreading seems to have taken a serious turn for the worse. There are now 928 cases of COVID-19 related deaths in the U.S., with more than 200 of those deaths coming on Wednesday.
Other Countries On Lockdown
A nationwide lockdown would be nothing out of the ordinary as there have been 10 countries so far that have enforced nationwide lockdowns. The current list is as follows:
- Belgium
- Denmark
- France
- Germany
- Greece
- Ireland
- Italy
- Spain
- Switzerland
- United Kingdom
With all of these countries on lockdown, they have each enforced several rules. Some rules are similar and some are different than others. The most common one amongst these countries is that no one is allowed to be out of there house unless going to the grocery store, doctor’s office or to go out for exercise.
A number of these countries have even put out fines in place for people that are out and about with no purpose to encourage people not to leave their homes.
